Butler, who before her marriage was Miss Etta Myrtle Sanders, daughter of Mrs. Joseph Sanders and the late Mr. Sanders of Polk County, N. C., is a very special student at High Museum and School of Art in At lanta. Mrs. Butler has been found, guilty by a jury, of creating sev eral lovely paintings and has sen tenced her works to be hung in the Atlanta Art Assn. Gallery in Sicott Memorial building of Atlanta. The jury is composed of faculty mem bers of High Museum School of Art and is a newly instituted sys tem of judging pictures for dis play. Only pictures that will bring credit to the artist and the Mu seum receive favorable verdicts. Each artist member of the Art Association is invited twice a year to submit four pictures to bd judged for a month's showing in the gallery. This was the first time Mrs. Butler submitted any of her paintings for judgment. The three pictures were of still life. One was a water color of a vase of dried magnolia leaves, love apples and pears. Another was of magnolia leaves and seed pods done in black, white, and grey tempo. The third picture theme included a vase, water pitcher, grapes, an apple and a squash in front of various colored folds. Mrs. Butler comes from an ar tistic family. She has a sister, Mrs. Mazie Sanders. Martin, of California, who is an art instruc tor. Both Mrs. Butler and Mrs. Martin write poetry. Their father, Joseph Sanders, painted lovely sun sets without having taken lessons.
