C., THRSDAY, JUNE 28TH. 1951 Weather Wednesday: High 95, low 64, Rel. Hum. 80 . Almost 12 gallons of blood was donated Wednesday by citizens of Polk County and Landrum at the Red Cross bloodmoffile program held at the Parish House. There were 102 volunteer donors from whom 94 were permitted to give a pint of blood. The doctors in charge stated that the need ‘for blood was so great that the surgeons and soldiers in Korea were giving theirs on a regular schedule in order to save their comrades. The officials here had hoped to get 125 pints as that amount had been estimated to be our quota. The Blood ^Mobile return to Polk County in ist and will be stationed at ida. Those who failed to donate here Wednesday will be given an other opportunity in August . . . Congratulations to the Town of Tryon on building ~a new cement sidewalk from the raidroad cross ing to the post office. It will be a blessing in rainy weather as well as giving safer walkway for pedestrians—-people who are a good ways from their parked automobile. . . . -Congratulations to the Tryon baseball team on making such a splendid showing in its first game in the Western North Carolina Industrial League Wednesday at Enka. The league is composed of -Continued bn Back Pape-i,_ GOLF RESULTS Mrs. Roger Shaffer won the “If Tda” golf tournament at the Try on Country Club Tuesday. She had a net of 33 for nine holes. Mrs. E. C. Burrell and Mrs. K. A. Bowen tied for second with a net of 35. Pro Ted Fox reports that plans are underway for a tournament on Wednesday, July 4th. Guernsey Cows Make Records Petersburgh, Nl H.—Two regist ered Guernsey cows, owned by John R. Kimberly, Tryon, have complet ed official Advanced Registry rec ords that were supervised by the North Carolina State College and reported to The American Guern sey Cattle Club for approval and publication. In the 365C day division, Bonnie Livia of Elm Echo, a senior 3 year-old, produced 16,256 pounds of milk and 720 pounds of butterfat. She is the daughter of the regis tered Guernsey sire, Welcome-In Cupid. In the 365 day division, Noble Max’s Queen, a junior 2-year-old, produced 11,378 pounds of milk and 586 pounds of butterfat. She is the daughter of the registered Guernsey sire, Quail Roost Noble Max. HOSPITAL NEWS Mrs. Arthur L. Jones and Alex ander Knott of Tryon were admit ted as patients to St. Luke’s Hos pital. The following were dis charged from the hospital: Mrs. Edgar Painter and baby daughter qf Route 1, Landrum and Mrs. A. y. Dye of Tryon.
