COUNTY SEAT NEWS By Mrs. Edward Staggs C. D. Hampton, Mrs. J. M. Hodge and Mrs. J. A. Feagan have returned from a visit with their brother, John R. Hampton, and Mrs. Hampton at their home at Raeford, K. C. While there they also visited Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Andrews at Raeford and Rev. and Mrs. D. M. McGeachy at Wade, N. C. On their way home they visited Rev. T. B. Rankin at Mt. Holly. C. C. Owens, who recently un derwent an operation at St. Luke’s Hospital, returned home Wednes day and is much improved. Hrt. Jack Earle Hutcherson and frier.d, Pvt. Jerry Arendt of Camp Rucker, Ala., were week-end guests of Pvt. Hutcherson’s moth er, Mrs. John R. Hutcherson. His sister, Mrs. Ruth Spurlin and chil dren and Mrs. Hutcherson accom panied them back to Camp Ruck er on Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Marion Smith Moved into their new home on Houston Road on Friday. Mrs. Mattie Hall, who is 85 years of age, enjoyed her first airplane ride Sunday at the Hendersonville Airport. Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Abernethy and son of Spartanburg were week end guests of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Searcy. William Braemer has arrived in Tryon from Castle Park, Mich., with a load of Arthur Reynolds’ horses and is returning today for another load. Mr. and Mrs. J. Arthur Reynolds and children, Bobby, Bucky and Betty have returned to Tryon from Castle Park, Mich., where they spent the summer. This years’s estimated average lint cotton yield for the nation is 287 pounds per acre—18 pounds above last year and 21 pounds above average. Total U. S. consumption of phosphoric acid on all crops in 1949-50 was not quite 2 million tons. The coming year’s supply will be reduced by a shortage of sulfur.
