.... TODAY is the big day for
the young dairymen of Polk Coun
ty who. are holding a 4-H Club
Junior Dairy Calf Show at Harmon
Field. Rotarians, Kiwanians, Lions
and Chamber of Commerce mem,
bers are joining in celebrating
the event. TUESDAY at 1:30 the
Freedom 'Crusade Motorcade will
come to Tryon and put on a 45
minute program on Trade Street
between Missildine’s and Good
year’s Florist Shop. Everybody is
invited to see the balloon launching
equipment which sends balloons
with freedom messages behind the
iron curtain. These messages are
to give encouragement to our
friends and weaken the Russian
propaganda. The Motorcade is on
a statewide tour from Murphy to
Manteo. Schools and civic officials
all along the route are cooperating.
Where it is convenient the school
grounds are used for the demon
stration. In Tryon Supt. Brank
Proffitt will permit the high school
students to attend the program.

. Mrs. Jeremiah Laughter, 82,
widow of the late Jeremiah Laugh
ter, died about midnight Sunday
after a lingering illness at her
home on Saluda Route 1, near
Warrior Mountain.
Mrs.. Laughter was the former
Miss Eliza Hester Hudson and had
been a resident of Saluda Route
1 most of her life.
Funeral services will be held on
Tuesday afternoon at 2 at the
Friendship Baptist Church with the
Rev. M. R. Early, the Rev. Paul
Stepp and the Rev. Broadus Strick
land officiating. Burial in church
cemetery. The McFarland Funeral
Home in charge. Grandsons will
serve as pallbearers and grand
daughters as flower girls.
Mrs. Laughter is survived by
two sons, Henry Laughter, of Mt.
Holly and DeWitt of Saluda Route
1; three daughters, Mrs. Arthur
Ballard of Weaverville; Mrs. Lillie
Staton of Enka and Mrs. Grayson
Johnson of Saluda Route 1. Also
one brother, James Hudson, of
Lynn; <28 grandchildren and 25
great-grandchildren.
After 4 o’clock Monday after
noon. the body will be taken to the
residence on Saluda Route 1 to
await the hour of funeral.

in Tryoa.
