Color in the Home.
Like people, rooms can and do
reflect personality. They can be
friendly, attractive, interesting—or
indifferent, nondescript, even re
pelling. And the way you’ve used
color has a great deal to do with it.
Pleasing color combinations in your
home add zest to living.
What color goes with what? Be
sure that you use colors right!
Start with the rules of color har
mony as the expects do. Get good
color combinations. I once knew
a family who refused to have a
clock in the living room—they
didn’t want their guest to be
time-conscious. You can express the
same warmhearted hospitality in
your home with color. You can be
sure if your color choice makes your
family happy, it will prove equally
inviting to guests.

Once the smooth plate of an
electric iron is scratched or the
edge dented, it will never iron so
well again. This is why house
hold equipment specialists remind
housewives never to scrape off
sticking starch with a knife or other
sharp tool.
To clean the plate while the iron
is hot, rub it back and forth over
dry salt an a sheet of paper. When
the iron is cool, starch may be re
moved by rubbing with very, very
fine steel wool or mild scouring
powder on a damp cloth. On a hot
iron, steel wool or damp cloth
becomes too hot to handle, and
scouring powder sticks.
Most housewives know that a
little paraffin applied to the hot
plate during the ironing of starch
ed cloths protects against stick
ing starch. But once the starch
has scorched on, paraffin will not
remove it.
Dents and rough . places at the
edge of the plate ofteh result when
the iron takes a tumble. Any
remedy for scratches and dents?
Have a new sole plate put on.
