MUSIC AT FAIR Good music and entertainment will mark the Grandstand offering at the 6th Annual Piedmont In terstate Fair, which opens on Oct. 8, at Spartanburg. In selecting musical entertain ment, the management chose Joe Basil’s Band, because of their enviable reputation as being Ameri ca’s leading musical organization, devoting their summer months ex clusively to Fairs and Expositions. In addition to the concert en semble, which embraces popular music, as well as the more se rious minded offerings, the_ Band, consists of talented musicians well versed in all types of music. Basile has played for many years at the Madison Square Gard en in New York City, having played there at the time whpn it was only a small two by four building and running straight through into the grand new struc ture known all over the world. Basile’s fame is also known over* the air, as during the winter of 1933, he performed for both NBC and CBS on the “Circus Days” progarm, which was a huge suc cess. Due to his liberal offerings of both popular and semi-CTwsical music, Basile enjoys an enviable reputation among Eastern Fairs and Expositions. He is an ex pert showman and musician, com bining perfect synchronization of music for the various acts and features which his concert num bers. Basile’s Band has been the fea tured band on the Big Top TV Circus Show for several years, and has just recently had his option renewed for several more years. i| Craig B.
