COMMUNICATION^ [Paid Contribution] How did the Tryon Committee for Legal Control get. its name? Were the members elected? Were they appointed or are they a volun tary grpup of Tryon citizns? It sounds official. The article in The Bulletin of Tuesday is timely. The ABC store should not slip into Tryon without every voter giving it serious thought. Money, as tne nrst point is well put. Nearly every one without thinking says Tryon should have it instead of Landrum, Asheville A B C, or bootleggers. Tryon wants money. Greensboro hoped Winston-Salem would go “dry”, so their ABC could get the money. It will take a lot of money from trade to pay the bills mentioned. “Alcoholic beverages, rent, salar ies, enforcement control and other necessary expenses.” Double page advertisements may often have to go into The Bulletin. A wise man counts the cost be forehand. Will it not affect the other stores selling alcoholic beverages? How did they get the right to sell? Who knew about it? No addition al tax to Tryon sounds mighty good these days, but remember the more the liquor business grows the bigger the taxes are for wel fare, for special hospitals for al coholic patients to say nothing of the terrible waste of life through road accidents caused by drink. A lot of trouble in the country has to be paid for by citizens’ taxes to keep- a five billion dollar business going to suit it. No doubt the committee is honest in the statement that the real problem is “To stamp but bootlegging” by law, rather than outlaw. Prav tell, have we not law already? If not what right have our officers to destroy stills as we are always reading about? We, too, urge you to think the matter over and as citizens of Tryor^ vote against assuming the business of a$l)ing alcoholic bever ages, raising it. ui importance to that of our usefijl stores.
