Frankenfield Jr. At the first meeting pf the new board of directors, of the Tryon Chamber of Commerce held on «rsday afternoon, Vice Presi f Howard B. Frankenfield Jr., elevated to president; James R. Gibson, vice president; George D. Cooksey, secretary; Seth M. Vining, treasurer. The new president, Mr. Frank enfield, succeeds Matt O’Shields, whose three year term as a direc tor, had expired. Mr. Franken field is a native of Philadelphia, Pa., and is a graduate of Penn State School of Agriculture, ma joring in forestry. He served three years in the Armed Forces of World War II and was overseas in England, France, Belgium, Holland, and Germany. He came to Tryonv in 1946 as a forester for the Champion Paper and Fibre __Continued on Back Page....— Town Council Rejects Election Protest Claim At a call meeting of the Tryon Town Council Thursday night Mayor C. D. Stevens, Commis sioners Ernest Kerhulas, R. B. Scruggs and Ernest Tollison, and Town Manager C. O. Smith were present. ' The question of the validity of the recent ABC election was taken up. Various Supreme Court de cisions from the town attorney, J. Lee Lavender, were heard. -He said, “It is my opinion that if no oath had been administered to any of the election officials the election would be valid, unless it shows that illegal votes were cast sufficient to change the result of the election.” The town minutes read in part: “This opinion was thoroughly discussed by the Commissioners and the motion was made by Com missioner Kerhulas that the legali ty of the election is valid accord ing to the ruling of the Supreme" Court as cited by the Town At torneys and the protest made at 11 a. mM on October 4th attack ing the legality of the'election be denied. The motion was seconded by Commissioner R. B. Scruggs. After time for discitesion the motion vteg offered and carried unanimously. There being no fur ther business the meeting adjourn ed”.
