NEW WOMAN’S GOLF CHAMPION CROWNED Any golf enthusiast who failed to follow the woman’s champion ship match between Jane Brown and Libby ^lining Mahler, on Saturday afternoon at the Tryon Country Club, missed witnessing the best 9 holes of golf that has ever been played by a woman on the club course! Libby broke her own and the woman’s course record by carding a 34 for the first nine holes and Jane had an excellent 41. On the second round, Libby took ,40 strokes which gave her a spectacular total of 74 for the 18 hole event and thus she be came the 1951 Woman’s Club Champion and Jane was the runner-up with a 41-44 for an 85. ror one past two weeks the wo men of the club have been playing their matches and reached the fin als on Friday and Saturday. The officers^ are Presi dent, Mrs. Carroll Bennett; vice president, Mrs. Roger Shaffer; sec retary and treasurer, Mrs. Gaden Oorpenirig. The chairmen are: Handicaps and Ringers, Miss Jane Brown; Putts, Mrs. K. A. Bowen; Prizes, Mrs. Charles Stratford; Sunday Events, Mrs. Clifford Cairns; Luncheons, Mrs. Seth Vining; Publicity and Bridge, Mrs. George Vance. It is planned that the women will have a Ladies’ Day once a month throughout the winter with possibly a round of golf; a sand wich luncheon; and a bridge game. We hope that the wives and daugh ters of all members of the club will attend and enjoy one (or all three) events each month! This organization which started just a few years ago with only 3 or 4 golf players, has now grown to a membership of 24 and has wonder ful possibilities of becoming a recognized association throughout the district.
