Firemen are calling National Fire
Prevention Week to everyone’s at
tention and request that everyone
look around and clean up any fire
hazards that might exist in your
home. The Firemen are going 'to
conduct inspections of business
property and other public places
during this week. Tryon is fortu
nate to have a group of men'who
voluntarily give their time to pro
tect our property against loss from

FIRE PREVENTION WEEK
In connection with National
Fire Prevention Week, Jim
Bailey, former assistant fire chief
of Asheville, spoke at the Tryon
school at 10 a. m., today after
conducting1 a fire drill.
The Tryon Volunteer Fire De
partment will inspect businesses,
schools, hotels, etc., during this
week. Fire Chief Eb Fisher re
quests that everyone clean up any
fire hazards they might have.
LIONS MEET TONIGHT
The Lions club will meet at
Oak Hall tonight at 7:30. Jim
Bailey, assistant chief of the fire
department of Asheville, will be
the speaker. Mr. Bailey is also head
of the American LaFrance Fire
Fighting Equipment of North
Carolina and the Southern division.
Since this is Fire Prevention
Week, the Lions have invited all
members of the Rotary, Kiwanis
Clubs and also the local Volunteer
Fire Department members to come
to the meeting. Those who can
come, call 334-W, C. C. Tharpe
and make reservations.
INJURED BY CAR
Mr. and Mrs. James T. Jones,
both 73, of Saluda RFD( 1, were
injured when struck by a car near
the Green River Bridge about 7 p.
m.. Sunday.
Both received fractures of the
legs and other injuries, State High
way Patrolman J. B. Kuykendall
said.
v He listed the driver of the car
as Miss Corinne Prince, 88, of Hen
dersonville, and quoted her as say
ing the couple stepped out in front
of her car. No charges had been
preferred Monday.—The Asheville
