MILL SPRING SOLDIERS
COMPLETE TRAINING
Fort Meade, Md., Oct. 16.—Two
Mill Spring men are on leave after
completing basic training at the
Medical Replacement Training Cen
ter here last Saturday.
They are assigned to the Far
East Command.
Pvt. Bryant H. Womack, son of
Mr. and Mrs. George Womack,
R-l, and Pvt. James F. Foy, is
the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harvey
Foy also of Tryon R-l.
The first six weeks covered basic
military training necessary for all
soldiers. This included weapons
and combat training designed to
enable the medical soldier to defend
himself and his patients if the
need should arise. The remainder of
their training was spent in indivi
dual and fundamental subjects of
the Army Medical Service includ
ing emergency medical treatment,
evacuation of casualties, military
sanitation and disease prevention.
HOSPITAL NEWS
Carl Price, son of Mr. and Mrs.
Earl Jackson of Fort Creek was
admitted to St. Luke’s Hospital.
There were no discharges.
FOR MEMORIAL FUND
The estate of Mrs. Louise A.
Crandall has left a bequest to St.
Luke’s Hospital Memorial Fund.
The money will be used for the
various needs of the hospital which
are supplied by monies sent to the
Memorial Fund.
The Masons of Saluda Lodge
gave an oyster supper Tuesday
night in the City Pavilion for their
families and friends. Ernest H.
Gibbs of Columbus was the speak
er of the evening. Songs were
sung and a soical hour enjoyed.
Mrs. Arthur Smith and Miss
Haiti Staton are visiting in Ashe
ville.
