THE UN AND YOU This week marks the sixth an nual observance of United Nations Week, co-sponsored by the American Association for the Unit ed Nations and the National Edu cation Association. Every com munity, city and state in the na tion has been asked to promote a program that will bring home to every citizen the value of the United Nations and the need to keep it alive and growing. The focal point of the week will be Wednesday, October 24, pro claimed by the General Assembly of the UN as United Nations Day throughout the world. “Our Best Hope for Peace Is UN Plus You,” is the slogan that will be promi nently displayed. The Lanier Li brary, always in the vanguard, has arranged a display of UN flags, loaned for the occasion by Mrs. James R. Trowbridge. Also on display are several im portant books dealing with the peoples of “the world; other impor tant publications include “The Birth of Israel,” by Jorge Garcia Granados; “Trial and Error,” Chaim Weizmann’s autobiography and “My Mission To Israel,” by James G. McDonald, first United States Ambassador to Israel. The Tryon school has made its contribution by appointing two Security Councils with students representing" the different nations debating UN1 problems. Emphasiz ing special interest in the UN, the Lanier Library plans to have as speaker at its opening meeting Wednesday, Nov. 7th, Courteney Anderson of Hendersonville, who will present an informed appraisal cf the UN.—Contributed. ■ People' everywhere long for music even if it’s the tiny chirp of a cricket.
