FEDERAL “BRASS”: The “top brass” of military reservations and of other lands and waters owned or controlled by the various ABC XYZ bureaus and agencies of the federal government—except those areas administered by the Fish and Wildlife Service—is being severe ly criticised for its growing tend ency to set aside and abrogate state fish and game regulations, and otherwise interfere with state and local fish and game programs. At the annual meeting of N. C. Wildlife Federation in Asheville this month the recent declaration of the commanding officer at Fort Bragg that the State’s fish and game regulations are “inoperative” on his post drew the fire and out spoken censure of those present. TARHEEL HUNTERS and fish ermen. whose license fees for years s have been spent towards building up and protecting their fish and game stock, were quite visibly and audibly irked by reports of the situation at Bragg. They un animously adopted a resolution protesting the commanding officer’s policies and practices in this in stance, and threatening to seek con gressional aid that would insure the authority of the State in fish and game matters wherever within its borders. Just a few weeks earlier, the members of the International Asso ciation. of Game, Fish & Conserva tion Commissioners, in conference assembled at Rochester, N. Y., . adopted a strongly worded resolu tion “opposing extension of feder al control over fish and game”, and went on record to sponsor ap propriate legislation in Congress that would read essentially as fol “'FHAT ALIi HUNTING on lands owned or controlled by the Federal Government and all fishing in waters owned or controlled by the Federal Government shall be in accordance with the laws of the State in which the area is locat ed.”—Woods Rider We have now to offer you, solid Cherry Dining Room yr Bed Room Suites.
