TIGERS WIN 13 TO 0
The Tryon High Tigers, cheered
on by a large home-coming crowd
turned in an upset win Friday af
ternoon at Harmon Field. Their op
ponent, Blacksburg, S. C., was a
favorite to win their fifth game in
seven starts,, but two quick touch,
downs and three defensive stands
gave the Tigers their first vic
tory of the season.
Coach Prince’s charges, streng
thened by the return of back Rob
ert Lewellyn took the opening
kickoff and drove 60 yards with
the running of Lewellyn and Ar
ledge leading. Arledge, hampered
by a bad ankle came out on the
second play of the game, after pick
u» 15 yards, and watched
Lewellyn score from the 8 yard
line. The extra point was short and
the Tigers led 6 to 0.
Vicious line play was featured
in the third and final quarters as
Blacksburg moved again to the
Tryon 20. This drive was stopped
when center Wiley White made a
diving catch of a Blacksburg pass.
The Tigers second score came,
in the fourth quarter. On the old
sleeper play, from their own 30,
Lewellyn took a pass from Thomas
Arledge and outraced the Blacks
burg safety man 70 yards to score.
Arledge split the uprights in the
extra point attempt.
