Congratulations to the Tryon Rotary Club on its efforts to get something done about the dangerous railroad crossing in Tryon. The Club wrote letters to the railroad officials, the governor of North Carolina,- the chairman of the Public Utilities Commission, the State Highway Commission, Sena tor Clyde Hoey and, others. The' railroad promised to have the mat ter investigated. In the meantime all the other officials concerned went to work on it, too, and this morning Commissioner Edward H. Prob ably the first chincillas ever born in Tryon arrived a few days ago at the home of the Rev. Henry Hearn, pastor of the Tryon First Baptist Church. Maj. Hearn, who was. a chaplain in the recent World War, has a profitable hobby of raising chinchillas. He has over 40 of them now. It is reported that he plans to use the money from their sale to finance a religious excursion to the Holy Land or other religious work .... Joe Gentry, Landrum Clerk Joe Gentry has been named Town Clerk by the Landrum Town Council to succeed B. P. Thomson, effective November 10th. The town clerk’s job is the equivalent to town manager in many communi ties. Mr.- Gentry win have his office upstairs in the Commercial Bank building. It’s Still The Auberge Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Bell, new owners of the Auberge apartment hpuse have announced that at re quest of many Tryonites and guests, the name of the building will not be changed as at first contemplated.
