Hum. 90.Reports have come . in about the efficient work of Police Chief Lewis Lindsey in watching traffic across the rail road crossing at the police statioh. The other day he saved a woman's life by pulling her away from the track in front of an oncoming train. At other times he moves traffic along regardless of red lights when the need arises-No movie matinees Monday or Wednesday. Schedule changed to Tuesday and Kdjrsday at 3 p. m-Columbus Club meets tonight at 7:30. Col'. Buckley, Floyd Bruce and Gray Feagan are on the Cub Pack committee .... Flags were flying at half mast in Tryon Sunday af ternoon in honor of Private John Walter Cochran, 22, who lost his life for his country in Korea. Funeral services were held at Peniel Baptist Church with the Rev. Furman Jackson officiating. Hundreds of cars brought a thou sand friends to pay tribute to Polk County’* first soldier to die in Korea. The citizens of Lynn and Columbus sent beautiful floral wreaths and the Polk County Post of the American Legion did the _Continued on Back Page_ LIONS MEET TUESDAY The Lions Club will meet Tues day at Oak Hall hotel at 7:30 p. m. The Rev. Henry O. Hearn of the Tryon First Baptist Church will talk on the Care and Raising: of Chinchillas. Mr. Hearn will •ex hibit one of his chinchillas at the meeting:. Major Hearn At Kiwanis Maj. Henry Hearn, pastor of the Tryon First Baptist Church will be the guest speaker at the Tryon Kiwanis Club Tuesday at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. The program will be in charge of Howard Greene. MRS. JblLLIE GIBBS Mill Spring.—Mrs. Lillie Haynes Gibbs, 82, died Saturday at her home on Mill Spring, B-2, in the Sunny View section of Polk Coun ty. She was the widow of J. Marion Gibbs and the daughter of the late Henry and Pantha Searcy Haynes of Rutherford County. Mrs. Gibbs was a native of Rutherford County, had lived in Sunny View for 60 years and was a member of the Cooper Gap Baptist Church. Funeral services will be held at 2 p. m., Monday in the Cooper Gap Baptist Church. The Rev. Geo. Lynch and the Rev. Paul Steppe will officiate. Surviving are one brother, B. S. Haynes, Mill Spring, R-2, and one sister, Mrs. H. E. Ruff, Mill Spring, B-2. The body is at the home. The McFarland Funeral Home of Try on, in charge. The hospital food collection will be on Thursday, November 29th. 1
