A meeting of the home economics
teachers of Transylvania, Hender
son and Polk Counties was held re
cently at Lake Sega, Brevard. The
meeting, combined with a covered
dish supper featured Miss Kath
ryn Woodard; assistant State
lunch room supervisor, who gave
a very interesting talk about nu
trition.
The teachers from the three
counties meet twice each month—
usually at Hendersonville High
School. Problems and teaching
methods are discussed and new
ideas exchanged. The teachers take
turns being responsible for plan
ning and presenting interesting
and worthwhile programs.

IT SOUNDED LIKE there was
a convention of crows in the Pres
ton building for a few minutes Sat
urday morning. “Doc” was trying
out a new crow call. And he’s such
an expert caller that, according to
the owner of a nearby house, a
stuffed owl the house-owner has
on his mantle tried to hide in the
chimney.
“That’s nothing,” another reader
of this column declared when he
heard of the incident. “Doctor
Preston was calling crows out back
of my house one day, and danged
if some ‘corn’ I had in a fruit jar
sitting on the kitchen sink didn’jw
burst out of the jar and run dow f *
