C., THURSDAY, DEC. 20TH, 1951 Weather: No official report but freezing rain began falling before daybreak today and there is some slush on the roads and streets . . . Will Santa Claus come to the Firemen’s tree on Trade Street tonight? The weather is pretty bad for the young people, but no weather is too bad for Santa Claus. If he doesn’t show up it will be because he thinks the little children shouldn’t be out in the rain . . . The Sunday school classes of Peniel Baptist Church will present a Christmas program Sunday night at 6:30 after which gifts will be distributed, says Rev. Furman yOcson. The public is invited . . . Carols and Gifts at Rotary Theo Kerhulas will have charge of the Rotary Club program Fri day at 1 p. m., at Oak Hall. The members of the club will exchange toy gifts which will later be turn ed over to underprivileged chil dren. The members will sing Christ, mas carols and Dr. George Far rand Taylor will give a short talk on the meaning of Christmas. Orchestra At Sunnydale Sunnydale, Tr yon’s refectory, now has an orchestra for dances on Saturdays, Dec. 22 and 29th, and for New Year’s Eve. Outdoor Nativity Scene At Columbus Presbyterian A Nativity scene has been erect ed in the yard of the Columbus Presbyterian Church at the corner of the first street in Columbus with the Landrum-Columbus Road. Visitors and motorists can easily see it and all are invited to go in the yard and get a closer view. The project was designed and con structed by W. W. Wallace. The painting was done by Mrs. Whitson Edwards and her mother, Mrs. H. P. Westaby; Hill’s Radio Shop furnished the lights and Eutrent Geer is in charge of the lights. School Principal Resigns D. J. Chadwick, principal of the Green’s Creek School, has resigned on account of his health and will leave soon for the Veteran’s Hos pital at Columbia, S. C. Mrs. Chadwick has accepted a position as teacher in a school in southern Georgia. No successor has been named for Mr. Chadwick. TOYLAND AT KIWANIS The Tryon Kiwanis Club enjoyed toyland Tuesday at Oak Hall hotel at the annual Christmas meeting1. Each member brought a toy and exchanged gifts with another member. These slightly used toys will be given to deserving children in the community. There will be no meeting next Tuesday. Allies delay exchange of prison ers while officials examine Com munist reports for any false moves. Asheville Citizen today pub lished the list of Western North Carolina men held prisoner by the Tleds.
