New Church of Christ Will Open Here Sunday The Tryon Church of Christ will dedicate its new church building at the formal exercises Sunday afternoon at 3 o’clock. The public is invited. Services will also be held Sunday night at 7 o’clock. Chester A. Hunnicutt is the evangelist for the local church which has 23 members and the following officers: Ellis O. Buckner, treasurer; Albert Henderson, Bur ress Patton, F. O. Cochran and Claude Cochran, trustees. The new building is located on U. S. 176 opposite Seven Hearths at the intersection with Harmon Field road. It is a two story, concrete block and frame construc tion that will seat 225 persons. The building houses six Sunday school rooms, a nursery, two rest rooms and a baptistry. It was built at a cost of approximately $12,000. Among; the out-of-town speakers who will take part in the dedica tion with brief remarks are Virgil R. Richie, -Spartanburg, S. C.; M. E. Burns, Valdese, N. C.; J. W. Davis, Greenville, S. C.; Walter Neil, Union, S. C.: B- H. Nicholas, Asheville, N. C.; W. G. George, Hendersonville and C. W. Womack, Spindale, ,N. C. The local organization was formed in Trvon about 12 months ago, and has held regular services ever since in Columbus while mak ing1 plans for a permanent building. Evangelist Hunnicutt states that there are about 1,500,000 members of Churches of Christ in Ameri ca in addition to many more in about 20 foreign nations. There is no headquarters except Christ. Each church is independent and yet the members are united in the Christian Spirit which has built 20 colleges in America and sent missionaries to all parts of the world. The church’s nearest edu cational center to Tryon is David Lipscomb College at Nashville, Tenn., which has about 1,500 students. The history of the church states that the first unit of the denomination was founded in A.D. 33 in Jerusalem; and the first in America was formed in 1790 at Manakin Town, N. C.
