Woman Shot To Death Near Hogback Mountain Mrs. Becky Jane Staton, about 65, was shot to death as she sat on the porch of her home in the Glassy Mountain section of upper Greenville County Wednesday. Lee Howard, 32, a neighbor, is being held for investigation by Greenville County police. Mrs. Staton was shot in the head with a .22 rifle, Deputies Frank Reid and Claude Langley reported. She was reading her Bible when shot, it was reported. Her husband, Henry Staton, told police someone shot at the house and he wen* out to investigate. He said he saw a man standing in a road beside the house firing the shots, according to an Associated Press story from Greenville. Officers said six holes were found in the house, apparently made by .22 bullets. A meter box at the side of the house had been blasted, ap parently with a shotgun. The body is at Petty Funeral Home at Landrum. Funeral arran gements will be announced later.
