The next event of the Tryon
^ Ending & Hunt Club is the spring
4j., Inter Trials, Saturday March
'%7^at Fancy Hill, the Tryon place
of the Herbert D. Olivers of At
lanta. The public is invited, first
class will start at 10:30 and will
last thru most of the afternoon.
The “Young Hunter” event is
for horses not over 6 years of
age.
The second event is “Working
Hunters”, Amateurs to ride, a
very colorful affair as the riders
wear their hunt colors and their
horses are required to negotiate
hunting field type obstacles down
hill out onto a road and back
over a farm gate up toward the
spectators where the huntsman,
George Webster, and the whipper
in, Ray Cochran, will be stationed
with several couples of hounds;
and they will give the signal to
up with the proverbal “Hard
ViJs-d”. After this test of control

During all these events the rid
ers are required to bring their
mounts up past the judge, Albert
P. Hinckley, Master of Foxhounds
of The Old Dominion Hunt of
Orlean, Virginia; in order that he
can determine the soundness of
wind after covering the course at
a hunting pace, about 18 miles an
hour.
Lunch will be served on the
grounds to the public by Pine
Crest Inn.
The afternoon starts with “Open
Hunters’’, the largest event of
the day. In this the horses are

Polk County Playoff
At a meeting of the coaches of
Tryon, Mill Spring, and Green
Creek high schools in Columbus,
plans were made for the playoffs
for these teams which were tied
at the end of the regular Polk
County Tournament last Satur
day. These games will be played
off on Thursday, Friday and Sat
urday of this week in the Columbus
gym.
At this meeting the All-Tourna
ment girls team was announced.
This team, picked by the referees
of the tournament, is made up
of Hazel Edwards of Tryon, Doris
Medford of Green Creek, Ruth
Price of Mill Spring at guards;
Martha Seay of Saluda, Dorthy
Searcy of Mill Spring, and Ann
Fagan of Green Creek at the
forward positions. These girls
will play in the preliminary games
on Friday and Saturday nights,
Harris of Mill Spring, Billie White
sides of Green Creek, Glenna Ham
rick of Tryon, Ora Westbrook of
Green Creek, and Ann Moon of
Tryon.

Karen Elizabeth is the name of
a daughter born March 6 to Mr.
and Mrs. R. L. Dick III at Salis
bury, N. C.
Dr. Taylor lectures tonight at
8 on St. Luke at Parish House.
