Senator Clyde Hoey was presented a citation Wednesday night at a meeting of the North Carolina Citizens Association in Raleigh in recognition of his ser vices to the State. The award was made by Senator Willis Smith. Hoey made the principal address on the importance of good govern ment and much of his speech in cluded praise and support of Sen ator Richard Russell of Georgia who he said has no superior among gjS&se mentioned for President. §f~Blsell has the experience, char acter and courage to make a good President. Following' Hoey’s ad dress Senator Russell addressed the assembly as an emissary of the Democratic senators in Wash ington who that afternoon had heard about the citation to be awarded Hoey and wanted to add one of their own. 49 of them signed a citation of aopreciation of Sena tor Hoey and persuaded Senator Russell to take a plane Wedn^sda^ afternoon at 4 o’clock and deliver it in person to Hoey in Raleigh.
