FRIDAY, MARCH 28 1952 WIN THRIFT CONTEST Winners in the Landrum Thrift Y Garden contest for having the most beautiful thrift growing in their yards were announced on ^Thursday afternoon as follows: and Mrs. Charlie Eaton, nrst prize of $25; Mr. and Mrs. Charlie Anders, second prize of $10; Mr. and Mrs. Noah Daniel, third prize of $5. The contest was reported very close. The judges were Mrs. Oliver Edwards, Mrs. R. C. Burnett and Mrs. Ralph Williams all of Tryon. MUSIC MONDAY The sweet voices of the colored people are always appreciated by music lovers. Two or three years ago there was a group of mature singers very ably led by Prpf. W. H. Green of the Embury school whose performances gave an un usual amount of pleasure. The Tryon Council of Church Women have been urging Prof. Green to fsemble and train this group ain. They are now ready, and 11 give a concert for the benefit of the Embury school at the Con gregational Church House next Monday evening at 8. This prom ises to be a real musical treat, as well as a chance to help a worthwhile cause.—Contributed. HOSPITAL NEWS New patients at St. I uke’s Hos pital include N. T.
