V. Dye, American diplomat, who was stationed there for 9 years. His talk was informative and it gave a sympathetic insight into the problems of that country whose people are deeply religious, wealthy and proud of their cul ture .... Tonight at 8 is the night of the Donkey Softball game at Harmon Field between Colum bus and Trycn Volunteer Fire The Field will be lighted for f,^^)ccasion and Wayne Creas man predicts that it will be a hilarious allair . . . Wednesday night is the night of the Tryon High School senior play, “Profes sor, How Could You!” . . . Thurs day is Duplicate Bridge Tourna ment . , . . Friday, the 16th will have street dancing on Trade St. Free admission, to spectators; small charge for dancers and cakes and food will be on sale for the t>enefit of the school Cafeteria fund. They still owe about $300 on the $2,000 worth of equipment. That’s a remarkable accomplish ment considering all the things done in this community, and no doubt there will be friends of the -Continued on Uncle Page _ Donkey Softball Tonight The donkeys are coming! Differ ent sizes, shapes and colors but all with their own individualities, or so says the manager of the Orange J. Ranch. They’ve been in the donkey business for a long time and think this is the finest group of baseball minded bur ros on the road. Each is a gradu ate of their “Donkey College” and is a past master at his own par ticular specialty, whether it is base stealing, sliding, bucking or just plain standing still. In case you haven’t heard, they’re to be used in the softball game tonight at Harmon Field under the aus pices of the Columbus Chamber of Commerce. All the players, excepting the pitcher and the catcher are to be mounted on the donkeys and are to run bases, field balls and to make all other plays while riding on the donkeys. And, what is more, they will have to cope with the donkeys’ ideas as to what should be done on the field and in the game. To add to the sport of the night, the sponsors have arranged for a complete floodlighting system to be set up at the Field and the entire game will be played under the giant lights.—Contributed. HOSPITAL NEWS Mrs. Horace Williams of Trvon was admitted to St. Luke’s Hos pital. Patients discharged include Mrs. Albert Turner and twins of Route 1, Tryon: Mrs. J. P. Patter son, Saluda. Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Case of Columbus are the parents of a son, Thomas Howard Case, born May 12th at 12:35 p. m.
