TRYON TAX RATE CUT
The tax rate of the Town of
Tryon has been reduced from
$2.25 to $2, by order of the Town
Commissioners. Mayor C. D.
Stevens stated Tuesday that Com
missioners E. L. Tollison, R. B.
Scruggs and Ernest Kerhulas
studied the financial report submit
ted by Town Manager C. 0. Smith
and unanimously voted to re-'uce
the tax rate for this year.
Mr. Stevens said that through
the efficiency of Manager Smith in
making collections due the town
and in keeping the administration
on a business like basis this re
duction was made possible. In the
meantime many streets have been
hardsurfaced, water and sewer
lines extended, new foundations
laid for several streets to be paved
this summer, and a general im
provement in the police depart
ment. garbage collection and
street cleaning.
The commissioners have express
ed appreciation of the coopera
tion given by the public in help
ing to make the community a
cleaner and better place in which
to live, and that they can only
go as far as the people wish and
the budget will permit.
