that keeps us all young, thrilled
26 members of Miss Hodges’ 4th
grade this morning when they took
a ride on the train from Tryon to
Hendersonville. 14 members of the
class had never ridden on a train,
on account of modern automobiles
and good roads. The pupiis were
met in Hendersonville by the grade
mothers, Mrs. Ralph Lawrence,
Mrs. C. W. McCall, and Mrs.
Ralph Farthing, who brought them
back to Tryon by motor . . . Mrs.
C. Cotner passed away in Hen

For Commencement Here
The Reverend Henry O. Hearn,
Pastor of the First Baptist Church
of Tryon, will be the baccalaurate
speaker and President Paul A.
Reid, of Western Carolina Teach
ers College, will give the address
at graduation for the senior class
at Tryon.
1 he commencement excercises
will begin Sunday evening, May
25, at .8:00 P. *M., in the school
auditorium, with the baccalaureate
service.
On Wednesday morning, May
28, at 9:00 o’clock, the closing
assembly will be held. Announce
ment will be made of students
who qualified for honor and per
fect-attendance certificates. A
charter will be presented to the
new Future Teachers of America
Club. The following awards will
be made: the W. S. Green Cup
for best all-round student in the
sixth grade; the James R. Trow
bridge Cup for best all-round
student in seventh grade; the
Nelson Jackson Cup for best all
round student in eighth grade;
the Woodmen of the World Ameri
can history medal; the Kiwanis
Cup for the high school student
who is selected on basis of scholar
ship, leadership, and character;
and the Rotary Cup for the high
school student who is selected for
outstanding service.
The graduation program will
take place Wednesday evening, May
28, at 8:00 o’clock. Thirty-two
diplomas will be presented at that
time.

forests hit an all-time high of
nearly 30 million last year.
