POLK COUNTY RUNOFF
RACES ARE CALLED
A second Democratic primary
will be held in Polk County in
the races for House of Represen
tatives, county commissioner and
Tryon township constable,
G. Harrison Bridgeman Jr., the
second high man in the race for
House of Representatives, has
called a runoff with R. E. Brant
ley, incumbent. **.
Bridgeman received 543 votes
and Brantley 907 in a four can
didate race for the House seat.
Brantley was the high man in
the race, with Bridgeman second.
In the race for county commis
sioner. Troy Durham, incumbent,
was high man in a field of five.
Demus Chapman was second and
W. H. Barnette, third.
Barnette, who received 693 votes,
has called for a second contest
with Demus Chapman, who re
ceived 868 votes.
Tommy Thompson, candidate for
Tryon constable, has called for a
second race with W. H. (Lit)
Durham, incumbent. Thompson re
ceived 311; Durham, 374; and. W.
B. Foster, 258.
In Green Creek School Board
three-corner race B. F. Rodgers
with 138 votes failed to get a
majority over two candidates and
Corrol Feagan next high with 122
votes will run it off.

New patidnts at St. Luke’s
Hospital include Mrs. Arthur L.
Smith of Tryon and Arlington,
Va., and James P. Brock, who fell
from a ladder. Patients discharged
include Mrs. William Horton and
baby son.
