Civil Defense At Kiwanis
Rev. LeRoy Leppard was in
charge of the Kiwanis program
Tuesday at Oak Hall and showed
a movie sponsored by the Civil
Defense. The movie showed the
dangers of the atom bomb and
gave precautions to take in order
to survive an atomic attack.
Guests of the club were Sam
Goodman, Spartanburg; Sig West
moreland, Marion; Bill Wyatt,
Marion and Rupert Koch, Hender
sonville, all viditing Kiwanians
and Joe K. Davis, Columbus.

New patients at St. Luke’s
Hospital include Joan Henson,
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Albert

SWIMMING INSTRUCTOR
The First Aid Committee of the
Polk County Chapter of the
American Red Cross announces
that Vance McCown who is a
qualified instructor, will have a
class in water safety (swimming'
instruction) at the Tryon Country
Club on Saturday mornings from
8:30 to 10 o’clock, starting July
5th. The class will be open to
children from 8 to 12 years of
age. In order to give the proper
individual instruction th^e class
will be limited to eight children,
including both boys and girls, and
the first eight to apply will be
accepted. Those interested to com
plete the full course, which will
run through July and August and
consist of eight lessons, may phone
Mrs. E. G. Ince, Tryon 198-R. The
first eight applicants will be ac
cepted in the order of their
