a delightful July 4th weekend. No
serious accidents were reported.
The police say everything was
quiet except everyone seemed to
be going or coming from the
mountains .in streams of cars. . .
Tryon Country club had a full
day. In the women’s division Mrs.
Libby Mahler won low gross; Miss
Jane Brown won longest drive and
^Ksest drive to special hole; low
went to Mrs. J. G. Newhall;
shortest drive to Miss Elena Gar
cia. For the men Jack Craig won
longest drive; Fred Edwards low
gross and closest to hole; low net
went to George Newhall. . . The
picnic supper was enjoyed by a
large crowd. . . Monte Dedman has
moved his office to quarters former
ly occupied by R. H. Brady where
he will be after 4 p. m. Monday
through Friday and all day Sat
urdays. He is resuming his regular
work at the Bulletin office and
all friends are requested not to
interrupt him except for urgent
matters that can’t wait.

JOHN DARNALL
Mr. and Mrs. Henry Hart re
ceived word Sunday of the sudden
death of their neighbor, John Darn
all, in Bergen, Norway, where he
and Mrs. Darnall were on a tour.
Mr. Darnall was formerly an
executive of Proctor & Gamble Co.
of Cincinnati and he and Mrs.
Darnall moved to Tryon about
three years ago when they com
pleted their new home on Piney
Ridge.
LANDRUM MASONS MEET
The Landrum Masonic Lodge will
meet Tuesday night at 8 o’clock.
ELZIE G. JOHNSON
Elzie Gosnell Johnson. 49, wife
i of Joe I. Johnson of Saluda, died
Sunday morning at 4:50 at her
home after an illness of about
one month.
Mrs. Johnson was born in Lan
drum. She had lived in Saluda
about 32 years. She was a daughter
of Mrs. Daisy Vinson Gosnell and
the late George W. Gosnell.
Surviving besides her husband
and mother are: five daughters,
Mrs. Leray Ross, Mrs. R. R. John
son, Misses Fay and Brpnda Gale
Johnson of Saluda, and Mrs. George
Spencer of Hendersonville; two
sons, Willie B. and Bobbie Johnson
of Saluda; four sisters, Mrs. Alva
Johnson of Saluda, Mrs. J. B.
Steadman of Landrum, Mrs. Fred
Williams of Detroit, Mich., and
Mrs. Silas Pittman of Hickory;
three brothers, G. W. - Gosnell of
Hickory, Horace Gosnell of Inman
and John Gosnell of Campobello,
and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conduct
ed Monday at 4 p. m. at Friendship
Church by the Revs. F. M. Higgins
