THE TRYOM DAILY BULLETIN

(Vol. 25—No. 124) TRYON, N. C. TUESDAY, JULY 22ND 1952
Weather Monday: High 98, low
77, Rel. HUm. 57 . . . The death
of 'Dr. Clyde A. Erwin, State
School Supt., was a shock to edu
cational leaders all over the state.
His interest in the educational
progress of the state and his
capacity for getting things done
and ironing out differences between
school leaders throughout the
state won the admiration of all;
and he successfully elected
after his 'appointment by the
governor, to serve**18 years. He was
formerly superintendent of Ruth
erford County schools where he
made such a good record he was
called to the state post. His state
iTtf'k received national recognition
he was chosen from time to
time to represent the nation in
an advisory capacity . . . The
DEMONcratic convention seems to
be underway in Chicago. Now the
Republicans can laugh. Many local
people stayed at their radios and
television sets long after midnight
as the fight over double talk went
on. The same breaths that talk
ed about rights of the individual
were trying to bind others to their
way of thinking, or else! . . . Mrs.
Clvde Lancaster at Columbus, Ga.,
reports 30 near rainless days and
temperatures that go sometimes
to 104 . . . Earthquake in Teha
chapi, Calif., kills 11 and wrecks
many homes.
