Court got under way Monday
morning- with Judge Don Phillips
charging the Grand Jury in which
he outlined the duties and some
of the customs of courts we in
herited from the English system.
This is Judge Phillips’ first visit
in about five years. In the mean
time he has served as a judge in
the war crimes cases in Germany.

Methodist Pastor Leaves
Rev. and Mrs. Paul F. Davis
left Monday for their new home
at Dallas, Oregon, where Mr.
Davis will teach English and So
cial Studies in the high school.
Mr. Davis surprised his congre
gation with the announcement Sun
day morning at the Tryon Metho
dist Church which he has served
since the last Conference in Oc
tober.
Mr. Davis in addition to his
divinity degree from Emory Uni
versity also holds a degree in edu
cation from the Missouri State
Teachers College at Springfield,
Mo. In order for him to accept
his new position in Oregon in time
to be ready for the new school
year, it was necessary to leave
Trvon immediately.
He will be succeeded in Tryon as
ad interim pastor by the Rev.
Harold A. Pruyn of Duke Univer
sity Divinity School, who will ar
rive this week-end and preach
next Sunday morning. The Con
ference will meet again in October
to name a new permanent pastor.
Mr. Pruyn has a wife but no
children.
