Taylor on their 40th wedding an
niversary, Friday, Sept. 12th.
They spent their honeymoon in
the mountains of North Carolina
40 years ago and came to Tryon
20 years ago from New York to
make their permanent home. They
entered into the spirit of the com
munity. Their enthusiasm, leader
ship and personal labor to the
point of self sacrifice put new life
into the town. As a team and as
individuals they have promoted
many worthwhile things here. The
Bovs Club Dr. Taylor organized
‘IjKfred many young boys to
^swater acmevemennts; his work
with the Scouts; his many ad
dresses to all kinds of public gath
erings; his schools of religion at
local churches and his years as
a professor at Converse College
have left their impress for good on
thousands. Both worked for the
P. T. A.; Mrs. Taylor was a boast
to the Auxiliary, and her garden
projects and community beauti
fies f’>n programs have set ex
amples for others to follow. She is
the founder of the famous Home
Frien^l” Club designed to give
good cheer, hope and personal
friendship to our men and women
in the armed services. Both have

POLK MAN KILLED IN
AUTO ACCIDENT TODAY
Anthony Isaiah Painter, 64,
Polk County farmer, was instant
ly killed Monday morning: about
1 o ciock ana nis wile seriously
injured in an automobile accident
on the Big Level road near Wil
son’s ridge over Green River.
Investigating officer W. R.
Boyles stated that Williamt Martin
Bolt was reported to be the driver
of the car which was traveling up
hill when it went to the left of
the road and then the right side
for some feet before going off a
15 foot embankment. Other mem
bers of the family including Mrs.
Martin Bolt and children Myrtle
and Johnny Bolt were not injured.
Mrs. Painter is in St. Lukes Hos
pital suffering a broken shoulder
and head injuries.
Deputies Gurley Laughter and
Sellers Edwards assisted in the
investigation.
Funeral services for Mr. Painter
will be held Tuesday afternoon at
2 o’clock at Beulah Church with
Rev. B. W. Reid officiating.
Besides his wife Mrs. Bonnie
Brown Painter, the deceased is
survived by the six children by a
former marriage: Mrs. Lilian
Watson of Tryon; Mrs. Pearl
Brown, Mill Spring Route 2; Mrs.
Addie Thompson, Tryon Route 1;
Richard and Edgar of Landrum
Route 1 and Earl Painter of Tryon
Route One.; One sister, Mrs. Eliza
Laughter of Landrum Route 1;
24 grand children and 5 great
grand children.
McFarland Funeral Home is in
charge of arrangements and the
body will be at the home of Rich
ard Painter on Landrum Route 1
until hour of service.
