Some 223,000 farm families re
ceived their first electric service
from REA-financed lines during
fiscal 1952.
Summer Reading Report
On August 26, the last meeting
of the Summer Reading Club
was held at the Lanier Library.
The total membership for the
summer was 27. Fifteen of these
kept up an active interest thi-ough
out the season. This was very
gratifying to those who sponsored
the project.
The following young people made
the highest records in points, for
^ooks l’ead and reported on:
Tsa Brannon 169; Jane Bissell 140;
Charles Willard 125; Sandra Mur
dock 122; Joe Dalton 94; Hubbard
Arledge 72.
The total number of books read
and reported on was 335 for the

The Tryon Bird Club got off
to an enthusiastic start of the
year at its meeting on Tuesday.
Mr. and Mrs. Ince gave us an
entertaining paper, with many il
luminating facts about our friend
ly little nuthatch. We should ap
preciate him more than ever, now
that we know his diet includes
spiders, borers, and other enemies
of our gardens and woods.
All those interested in bird
study are invited to join with us
in the stimulating program of
the year, as outlined by Mrs. Nor
