Stevens reports that there is less
water in the town reservoir and

It will be necessary to cut off the
water from those who refuse to
cooperate by not washing cars

A POLK COUNTY HERO
The heroic actions of Pfc. Bry
ant Womack which were recounted
in Wednesday’s Tryon Daily Bulle
tin and the naming of a Memorial
Bridge in Korea in his honor made
us all proud that a Polk County
young man should have carried
himself so heroically. The late
Private Womack was registered
from Mill Spring but owing to
his nearness to Rutherfordton, fre
quently that town got the credit
of this young man's fine actions.
All of us who are stay-at-homes
cannot be grateful enough that the
breed of young man in Polk Coun
ty is of such heroic stuff. If you
by any chance missed this story,
look it up on the back page of
Wednesday’s Daily Bulletin. It is
worth re-reading.—G. F. T.
Since the above was written by
Dr. Taylor, today’s Asheville Citi
zen reports from Washington that
Pvt. Womack has been awarded tlje
Congressional Medal of Honor.
Army Secretary Frank Pace Jr.,
announced the Army’s 54th honor
medal—the nation’s highest, for
bravery. The medal .will be pre
sented to the soldier’s parents, Mr.
and Mrs. George Womack at a
later date. Womack was born in
Polk County and buried at Leban
on Methodist Church in Polk
County. Another interesting story
of the award and brave deed as
seen by another comrade is pub
lished in today’s Asheville Citizen.
Saluda Folks are proud of their
School Lunch Room. The state
health inspector was around Mon
day and gave a grade (A). This
speaks well for the ladies who run
it, Mrs. Florence Whitaker, Mrs.
Jessie Hipp, and Mrs. Lillian
Thompson. The lunch room is
well equipped and serves good food.
