One of the common enemies of Tryon is litter on the streets by thoughtless peo ple who throw paper drinking cups, cartons, wrappers and even bottles and cans on public streets or on other peoples’ property. Some of them are getting aroused and com plaining to officials. No friend of Tryon will throw drinking cups on the streets. ... No man who wants to keep ABC stores and beer dealers in operation will throw empty cans and bottles on other peoples’ property. These people Continued on Dark Pncje POLK PROBED Four members of the State Board of Elections arrived in Folk Coun tv Wednesday to investigate the disappearance . of approximately •ihO ballots during the spring run off primary. Thursday’s Asheville Citizen has a long article concern ing the investigation and a picture of the State Election Board mem bers including Charles M. Britt of Ashevifle; Harry Forebee of Camden; P. E. Brown of North Wilkesboro and ,T. Eugene Snyder of I/oxington. Howard Robbins of Charlotte was absent. Another pic ture showed Democratic Chairman W. H. McDonald and Deputy Sheriff Sellers Edwards who were witnesses. There were 17 other witnesses but no evidence was re vealed to tag the person who took the ballots from Deputy Sheriff Edwards’ car while it was parked near the Trvon polling place. Some of the missing ballots were found at various places over the county but no evidence was shown that any had been voted. Am one the witnesses quoted in The Asheville Citizen were Election Chairman Ned Anderson, County Commissioner C. O. Story, Harri son Bridgeman Sr. Chairman Anderson testified that Deputy Sheriff Edwards accom panied him for protection because “There are people here who would do anything to you at election time.” C. O. Story told the State Election Board that he lost a house bv fire a few weeks ago because of the political situation in the county. Most of the witnesses stated they ha'i no knowledge of the missing ballots, who got them, or why. The State Board will complete its investigation at Columbus bv Thursday afternoon, it is reported.
