New Vision For Nurses
At Hospital Here
Nurses at St. Luke’s Hospital
are now enjoying television, thanks
to many friends of the hospital
and to the Memorial Fund, in part.
Because of the friendly atmos
phere and the sympathetic treat
ment on the part of our nursing
staff, one of our patients made a
gift to start a fund for the tele
vision set. Similar gifts flowed in
and the fund became of sufficient
size to warrant the purchase of the
set at this time. The Board of
Trustees of the hospital has sup
plied the remainder of the money
from the hospital’s Memorial
Fund account.
Contributors to the original tele
vision fund include Dr. H. P. West
aby, Arthur W. Britton, Charles
G. Sewall, Mrs. Edna G. Falconer,
Mrs. George S. Brannon, Mr. and
Mrs. Nelson Jackson, Mrs. Midge
Edwards, Miss Elizabeth James,
Mr. and Mj-s. Murray M. Mendell,
Mrs. Andrew Moore, Miss Helen
TJtearns, James W. Little, Mrs.
Shannon Merriwether, Miss Jane
Brown,Miss Elena Garcia and Mrs.
Henry Huxley.
Beginning with Dr. Westaby’s
gift, other friends of the hospital
followed suit. A story in the Tryon
Daily Bulletin refered to the need
for television for off-duty nurses
and further contributions came
rolling in.
The Memorial Fund at St. Luke’s
Hospital, from which the remaind
er of the television money was
received, has grown in popularity
and usefulness. The Board of
Trustees has recognized that the
fund is not to be used for routine
costs but for the enhancement of
beauty at the hospital and for the
comfort and pleasure of patients
