Rotary club meets today at 1
o’clock at Oak Hall. Theo Ker

gram. Harold Crandall who re
cently returned from Europe will
speak on conditions as he saw
them. . . TONIGHT beginning at
5:30 to 7:30 a Halloween Dinner
will be served to the public at
the School Cafeteria. Those who
have not visited the new cafeteria
will be amazed at the attractive
ness of the place as well as the
good food. TONIGHT is a night
for young and old at the HAL
LOWEEN CARNIVAL that will
gWd on Trade Street with games,
S*mests, food and fun along with
a costume parade. Benefit of the

where tonight. . . Fellowship
Group which was to have met to
night has been postponed to next

time Miss Mollie Washburn who
recently returned from Germany
will be the chief speaker. . . When
asked what has become of the
money the county has received from
the ABC store in Tryon, Chair
man R. E. Brantley of the ABC
store said of the $2,500 given the
county todate $754.50 has been

MRS. W. H. BURTENSHAW
Mrs. William H. Burtenshaw
passed away Friday morning, Oct.
31st. She had been a resident of
Tryon for 24 years and was chair
man of the Helping Hand for part
of that time. She was born in
Hartford. Conn., and spent her
early married life in Detroit,
Mich. She was interested in
philanthropies there and was on
the Board of Trustees of the Wo
man’s Hospital for 40 years. Dur
ing the First World War she was
active in the Red Cross, helping
to equip and send overseas Base
Hospital 36.
She is survived by her daugh
ter, Mrs. Alexander Knott; two
grandchildren, Alexander Waller
Knott and Nancy Waller Knott,
and a sister, Mrs. Lewis D. Parker,
of Lebanon Center, N. Y.
Her husband died in Trvon in
November 1948.
Services will be held at the
residence Saturday 'at 2 p. m.
Burial private.
It is requested that no flowers
be sent.
