The Union Thanksgiving Service in Tryon will be at 10 o’clock at the Methodist Church. The Chritsian Science service at 11 o’clock. . . All the stores and business houses will be closed, in cluding the Court House offices in Columbus. Stores in Tryon, Co lumbus and Landrum will be open day Wednesday in order to «B|care of last minute shoppers. stores in all three communi ties plan to be closed all day Thursday for Thanksgiving. . . The Men of Holy Cross Church win present Dr. George F. Taylor in the first of four free lectures “Introdution to the Epistles and I, II Thessalonians” on Tuesday night at 8 o’clock at the Parish House. The big event of the week is “My Favorite Hunter” which will be held Friday at the George Brannon place, Mulberry Farm. Mr. ’ and Mrs. Sam Boykin of Gamden, S. C. will be the judges. Dec. 13 The Eisenhower Victory Dinner for Polk County will be held Sat urday, Dec. 13th at Sunnydale. Prominent state and district Re publican leaders will be present including Congressman>et^ct C. R. Jonas of Lincolntop*^ Chairman Ernest Gibbs of the Republican Executive Committee states that the names of other leaders will be announced later. Mr. Jonas is the first Republican in North Carolina sent to Con gress in 24 years and is now re cognized as one of the key Re publicans in the state. Professor William H. Irving, chairman of the English Depart ment of Duke University, has re turned to Durham after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. W. F. Bryan. Mrs. Clara Pue Graham of Bel Air, Md. will arrive Wednesday for a visit with her sister, Mrs. E. Pue-Williams. Dr. and Mrs. Virgil Jordan of Weehawken, N1. J. have moved in to their Tryon home, the former •Tudson Possum Trot, in Gillette Woods. Mill Farm will have special Thanksgiving dinner Thursday, and Oak Hall will not have its evening steak supper Thursday oh account letting the staff off to have Thanksgiving at home with their families.
