Columbus Chamber Commerce
Starts New Year Today
William A. McFarland was re
elected president of the Columbus
Chamber of Commerce at its an
nual meeting Thursday and Paul
Smith was re-elected vice presi
dent. The Rev. T. C. Bailey, pas
tor of the Presbyterian church was
elected secretary, and Douglas
Roper, treasurer. Two new direc
tors E. H. Gibbs and J. P. Chris
topher were elected to serve with
holdovers Rev. LeRoy Leppard,
James W. Gantt, George Marting
and Dr. H. P. Westaby. Next
meeting January 8th.
HOSPITAL NEWS
The following patients were ad
mitted to St. Luke’s Hospital: Mrs.
Morgan Morris, John S. Donald,
Mrs. Cline Hendrick, Mrs. Mary
Cheek, all of Tryon. Patients dis
charged include Miss Jean Mc
Cain, Ralph Williams, of Tryon;
W. K. Ross, Lynn, Everett Rhodes,
Saluda.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Sain of
Mill Spring are the parents of a
daughter born Dec. 6th at 7:55 p.m.
A&P Closed Wednesday P.M.
The A&P Store in Tryon will
not be open Wednesday afternoons
as stated in Thursday’s Bulletin,
I except on Wednesday the 24th, day
before Christmas. The other stores
will be open all days on Wednes
days until after Christmas.
President Gordon Gray of the
University of N. C. and State
Chairman of the Crusade for Free
dom has appointed Carroll P. Rog
ers chairman for Polk County.
