The Tryon Garden Club held
its December meeting at El Cerri

tin. It was a real Christmas party.

Hospital Contracts Let
For $177,000 Building
Contracts for the erection of the
addition to St. Luke’s Hospital
were let to three contractors Wed
nesday afternoon, according to an
official announcement.
Click Construction Co., of Eliza
bethon, Tenn., was awarded the
contract for the construction of the
building for $103,816. The Sani
tary Plumbing and Heating Co., of
Greenville, S. C., received the con
tract for the heating for $18,647
and for the plumbing at $16,193.
Ivestor Electric Co., also of Green
ville, received the electrical con
tract for $7,240, making a total of
$145,896. Other expenses include
$18,000 for equipment, $8,753 for
architect’s fee and $4,359 for con
tingencies, making a total of ap
proximately $177jOOOi. Ctf this
amount local people and friends
of the hospital throughout this
area are asked to donate $57,000.
The larger portion will be given
bv tbe North Carolina Medical
Care Administration, Federal and
State funds.
SANTA CLAUS TONIGHT
Santa Claus will come to Trade
Street tonight about 6:30 and help
the Tryon Fire Department dis
tribute bags of fruit and candy to
over 1,000 children who are com
ing from all parts of this section
to see the Firemen's Community
Christmas tree in front of the
Tryon Bank & Trust Co. The
tree is lighted each night with blue
lights. Trade Street will be roped
off at this point and all the people
can fill up the space. A public ad
dress system will be installed to
carry the music of choirs from all
the churches including a colored
