HOSPITAL NEWS Born to Mr. and Mrs. Thurston Arledge, a son, at St. Luke's Hos pital on Dec. 19, at 1:43 p.m. Mr. and Mrs. Adolphus Sain of Saluda are parents of a son born Dec. 21, at 6:05 a. m. Other new patients include Wpvne Hardin of Lvnn and Miss Shirley Jackson of Tryon. Patients discharged include Mrs. Clarence Richards, Everett Rhodes, Mrs. Mary Lyster, Mrs. Cline Hen drick and daughter. Clarence Newman and Mrs. C. H. Lewis. POLK COUNTY PEOPLE IN AUTO ACCIDENT A number of auto accidents were reported over the weekend. In the Boiling Springs road accident the injured were: Garvin Skipper, 52, of Landrum Route 1 (North Caro lina), with a leg injury; James Harold Johnson; 28, of Campo bello Route 1, cut hand; and Miss Eugenia (Carolyn) Hines of Green Creek, N. C., cut mouth. State Highway Patrolman R. B. Mauney said the accident occur red when Mr. Johnson started to pass a third vehicle in his 1940 Ford. He apparently applied brakes and skidded on the road. The 1940 Chevrolet driven by Mr. Skipper and traveling in the opposite di rection struck the rear of the Johnson car, Mr. Mauney said. The patrolman estimated damage of $200 to each car. Mr. Skipper was on his way to work at Draper and had four or five passengers, among them Miss Hines. Mr. Johnson was alone.— Spartanburg Herald. TOY HOUSE JOY The Lanier Library has been decorated with Christmas greens by the chairman, Mrs. Horace Dawson and Miss Katherine Bur gess. The creche made and given by the Toy House of Tryon has been set up in the children as well as grownups to enjoy. Mrs. J. C. Woodley and mother, Mrs. Carpenter have gone to Colo rado for an extended visit. Miss Elizabeth Stanwood accompanied them as far as New Orleans for the holidays and will return to Tryon.
