ANOTHER TRYON QUEEN
Phoebe Mackay of Bronxville,
N. Y., and Tryon was crowned
Oueen-of-the-Mardi-Gras Costume
Ball at Parsons School of Design
in New York City on Friday,
Feb. 13th. She and her escort, Bob
Widder of Gettysburg, Pa., were l
chosen by the new president of the 1
school, Pierre Bedar, formerly j
president of the French Institute,
and other judges from the fac
ulty. All costumes were judged
for originality and taste.
Miss Mackay and Mr. Widder
went as ghosts-frcm-the-Court-of
Versailles, in costumes made of
brilliant ribbons and wigs of crepe
paper.
Both are seniors at the school
and will graduate this May from

POST OFFICE CLOSES
MONDAY, FEB. 23ND
The Tryon Post Office will be
closed all day Monday, Feb. 23rd,
except for two hours in the morn
ing from 10 to 12 for sale of
stamps and general delivery. The
closing on the 23rd takes the
place of George Washington’s
birthday which falls this year on
Sunday, 22nd.
BANK CLOSES
Tryon Bank & Trust Co., will
be closed Monday, Feb. 23rd, in
honor of Washington's birthday
which falls on Sunday, Feb. 22nd.
Polk County Tournament
Saturday night Mill Spring girls
heat Saluda 57 to 46 and the Sa
luda boys defeated Tryon 69 to
47. Thursday night at the Colum
bus gymnasium there will be three
games. At 7 p .m. Mill Spring
girls will play Green Creek; 8
p. m. Mill Spring boys vs. Green
Creek; 9 p. m. Saluda girls vs
Tryon.
Friday night there are four
games scheduled as follows: 6:30
Tryon vs. Mill Spring (girls; 7:30
Tryon vs. Green Creek (boys) ;
8:30 Green Creek vs. Saluda
(igirls) ; 9:30 Saluda vs. Mall
Spring (boys).
The round robin tournament will
end Saturday with the following
games: 7:00 Green Creek vs. Sa
luda (boys) ; Green Creek vs. Try
on (girls) ; Mill Spring vs. Tryon
(boys).
Immediately after the tourna
ment ends an all-star team will be
selected by the tournament offi
cials.
