Buys on Retail Market
Higher chick placements in the
specialized broiler-producing areas
over the past few months promise
excellent supplies of broilers and
fryers for retail markets in March,
Paul E. Culberson, Polk County
Farm Agent said this week.
Beef also has been added to the
March plentiful foods list, along
with frozen fish fillets, turkeys,
raisins, honey, dry lima beans and
pea beans, dairy products, eggs,
peanut butter, edible fats and oils,
and processed citrus products.
Cabbage, from a winter crop that
is about 17 per cent larger than
last year, is abundant and one of
the better fresh vegetable buys in
the Southeast, according to Mr.
Culberson, who said that low
wholesale and shipping point
prices are being reflected in the
reasonable retail prices that are
making cabbage a budget buy on
current markets.
Celery supplies also are abund
ant, and for fresh fruits, oranges
and grapefruit since adequate
supplies of both fruits will be
available during March.
