TREE FARMS IN N. C. Washington, D. C.— (Special) — Tree farms in North Carolina now total 613,812 acres, James C. Mc Clellan, chief forester, American Forest Products Industries, report ed today. He said 77 tree farms, all pri vately-owned. tax-paying proper ties, are represented in that acre age. A total of 14.954 acres was added to the Tar Heel state’s Tree Farm System in 1952. The N. C. Tree Farm System was launched May 17, 1944, by the N. C. Forestry Assn. The Southern Pine Assn, cooperates in sponsoring the program. Pri vate forestland owners may quali fy for Tree Farm certification by managing their property for the continuing production of useful wood crops. Since 1941 the pro gram has spread to 35 different states, where 4,209 woodland own ers now are practicing wise man agement on 27,672,228 acres of crop-producing forestland.
