EASTER PARADE
An eye catching program is be
ing prepared for next Wednesday,
March 11th, when the P.-T. A.
Ways and Means Committee with
the cooperation of Ballenger’s De
partment Store stages a Spring
Fashion Show of latest styles in
men’s, boy’s, girl's and women’s
attire. During the show, door
prizes will be awarded. Naturally,
there’s a purpose in all this ac
tivity—to entertain of course—but
also to make enough ^ money to
finish paying for the playground
equipment now in use on Try on
school grounds.—Contributed.
THE BOOK OF KELLS
Between 500 and 1000 A. D. one
of the great arts of Europe was
that of illuminating manuscripts.
This art reached its highest per
fection in Ireland, and the Irish
“Book of Kells” is considered to
be the finest existing example. The
British Association Handbook calls
it “the most beautiful book in the
world.” In it are the four Gospels
written in Latin, in a script
decorative to such a degree that
in some cases a page contains only
one word. Each capital is orna
mented with geometrical designs,
interlacing spirals, floral, bird, ani
mal and human forms all brought
into a harmonious design, often so
detailed that it cannot be fully
seen by the naked eye, and colored
in soft and lovely coloring.
There have been many attempts
to reproduce this book. I have
just received a copy of the latest,
containing 24 of the most beautiful
pages and initial letters. You are
invited to come and see it.
