MELVIN HIPPS WINS
PEACE MEDAL
At the Rotary Club on Friday,
March 20th, Melvin Hipps won first
place in the Peace Program Essay
speaking contest annually spon
sored by the University of North
Carolina. As winner in the Tryon
High School, Melvin will receive
the gold key medal and is eligible
to enter the district contest in
Asheville on April 2nd.
Winners in the various distinct
contests will be given a free trip
to the home of the United Nations.
Two-thirds of North Carolina’s
