Have hanging rods, hooks and
shelf space in closet, and shoe rack
or shoe bag on door. Avoid crowd
ing clothes on hangers—saves ex
tra pressing. Keep clothes mended,
cleaned and pressed. Label boxes
and garment bags. It saves opening
“wrong one” later to get what you
want. Use drawers or boxes with
partitions for handerkerchifs, hose,
gloves, etc. You can make these.
Store linens and bedding in or
near room where they are used.
Label and stack bed linens accord
ing to size and quality—single
bed in one stack, double bed sheets
in another; muslin sheets in one
stack, percale in another, etc.
Follow your canning budget and
can only what you need. Canning
more than your budget wastes
time and energy, takes unnecessary
storage space and means a lot of
old left-overs, much of which may
spoil if not used in several years.
Store canned foods in or near
kitchen if at all possible. It is a
great time and energy saver.
Carry in at least a week’s supply
in one trip, if stored out of the
kitchen. Group and label canned
foods according to kind and ar
range an emergency shelf for un
expected guests.
