VETERAN’S NOTICE
The North Carolina Veterans
Commission will have Jack C. Win
chester, District Service Officer,
with the County Service Officer
in the Court House, Columbus on
Thursday, April 2, from 11 a. m.
to 4 p. m., and he will be in the
County Service Office, Court House,
Rutherfordton, on Friday, April 3,
from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p. m.
Mr. Winchester stated the dead
line for making’ application to re
ceive the second prisoner of war
payment of World War II, is April
9. Veterans, servicemen or de
pendents, who are entitled to this
benefit of $1.50 for each day held
prisoner, must file application for
this by the deadline.
The Service Officer also stated
that men who received dental
treatment in World War I, World
War II, or the Korean conflict
should make application for home
town dental treatment, which can
be granted to certain veterans who
meet the requirements. Veterans,
who are now being discharged,
should file application for this
treatment as soon as saaarated
from service, and, by al^Bfeans,
file in time for the Veterans Ad
ministration to give authorization
and receive the treatment within
one year afer discharge, Mr. Win
chester concluded.
Mrs. E. L. Carpenter of Minne
apolis, Minn., has arrived at the
Leonard Carpenter Tryon home,
Whispering Pines, for a visit.
Bill Kimberly of Neenah, Wis.,
student at Williams College, has
arrived at his Tryon home, Esk
dale Farm, for spring vacation.
Dr. and Mrs. J. E. Derby and
Miss Gertrude Schoff have return
ed from a two week’s visit in
Florida.
