JOHN R. FOSTER, 93
John R. Foster, 93, prominent
citizen of Mill Spring, died Sun
day, April 12th, at 11:45 at the
Rutherford Hospital.
Mr. Foster was a native of
Greenville County, S. C., but had
lived in Polk County for the past
65 years. He was an active farmer
and merchant at Mill Spring, and
served on the county school board
for a number of years; was county
superintendent of public instruc
tion for six years, postmaster at
Mill Spring for 21 years before
he retired to his farm.
Mr. Foster is survived by one
daughter, Mrs. Annie F. Briscoe,
the present postmistress at Mill
Spring; one son, J. Robert Foster
of Mill Spring; two daughters
in-laws, Mrs. H. H. Foster of Spar
tanburg and Mrs. J. Robert Foster
of Mill Spring and the following
grandchildren: J. Robert Foster
Jr., Sarah E. Foster, Carol Fos
ter, of Mill Spring and Mrs. John
Kelly of Spartanburg.
Funeral services will be held
Tuesday. Hour will be announced
later.
