and news story by Dodee Wick who
with her husband and eight other
newspaper people have just re
turned from Russia where they
took pictures and interviewed peo
ple about conditions there. This
was the first visit of this nature
by American newspaper people in
many years. Dodee Wick will be
remembered by many Tryonites as
the star of the Vagabond Players
at Flat Rock. She and other mem
bers of the Vagabond Players have
been guests of the W. E. Sassoons
of Dr. and Mrs. George Taylor.
Wick is the publisher of a
number of papers .... TODAY
Tryon is entertaining the Wes
tern Carolina Women’s Golf As
sociation, at a tournament at the
Tryon Country Club. There are
104 of them including 21 from
Asheville Country Club; Spartan
burg 18, Greenville 13, Biltmore
Forest 12, Morganton 11, Tryon
14, Hickory 10, and Waynesville

is president of the Tryon club as

I '• Douglas S. Blois, secretary of
! Green River Mills was taken by
! death Thursday afternoon, April
| 16, after a lingering illness,
j Mr. Blois was born in Savannah,
j Ga., Sept. 5, 1892, where he re
| ceived his early education. His
I first business connections were in
Jacksonville, Fla., where he met
! and later married Miss Pauline
Burroughs on October 11, 1916.
In April 1917 Mr. Blois enlisted
in the Army as a private. He serv
ed 18 months overseas and sep
arted as captain in the Reserve.
Mr. and Mrs. Blois made their
home ni Tryon in 1924, where he
was secretary and manager of the
Ford Company for a number of
years.
Later he was elected cashier
of the People’s Bank & Trust Co.,
which position he resigned to be

Miss Ashlyn Wyman of Augus

won four first places Wednesday
to take top honors in the Tryon
Horse Show.
Miss Wyman won the Candolette

i Farm trophy, Lynncote trophy and
i the Neil Bates trophy for junior
; horsemanship for riders 13 to 18
j years of age.
